Airboard
I've often been told that the world doesn't need hovercrafts. That if they didn't exist, no-one would miss them. That they can be thought of in the same way as The Daily Express, the novels of Wilbur Smith, the music of the Bluetones and the countries Chad, Paraguay and Laos. Unnecessary.
But this isn't just a hovercraft. This is an Airboard!
Described as a "fun leisure vehicle", the Airboard rises on a cushion of air and can reach speeds of up to 25kph. You stand on the Airboard's platform and control it with two levers, one for the engine/fan speed and the second for the friction drive clutch.
"Brilliant, I'm gonna buzz across the Channel on mine to annoy the French!"
Erm, it can't go on water.
"So it's like a hovercraft, but less useful then?"
Yes, but infinitely cooler. And it handles better. And has better acceleration. And in my book, that's enough provocation to buy one.
"Why is it pointless?"
Whichever way you look at it, it's a luxury item
"Why is it cool?"
Until proper Back to the Future-esque hoverboards are invented, this is where it's at
