This is sooo cool! For only £20 its cheaper and WAY cooler than a fish tank & will lighten up whatever room you decide to put this in. A really unique household thing! One thing tho, how long does it last? If the ants eat the blue stuff then it must run out eventually (maybe not after very long either), might do a bit of research...

Antworks is quite amazing. I ordered the recommended harvester ants, and they have been making tunnels like crazy. My 17-year-old daughter thought the whole idea of an ant farm was stupid, but yesterday she spent a lot more time gazing at the ants than she planned to: "I really should be doing my homework, but this is so awesome." Too bad the gel only comes in blue, though. Different colors might make it even cooler! Also, if you do order Antworks, I would highly recommend purchasing the Illuminator (light accessory) for it. Then your ant farm can serve as a night light as well. I'm not sure it is available outside of the USA, but I suppose one could always purchase one and use an adapter in the electrical outlet.
By the way, this is the holiday gift I've chosen this year for my nieces and nephews. I'll think they'll like it as much as I do.

Cherry: The ants cost £3.50 a set (add an extra £1 for shipping outside the UK). Just send a cheque made payable to "Blades biological ltd" to Blades Biological Ltd, Cowden, edenbridge, TN8 7DX.
These details were taken straight from the box of our newest Antworks - so should be OK.

Absolutely amazing allthough after an initial burst of activity my ants are now slacking and spent all day hanging out in a little den they have created.
Anyone else with this problem might find this interesting
20% of worker ants idle lazybones: study
Hasegawa said they discovered that about 80 percent of the ants engage in some sort of work, such as cleaning the nest or gathering food, but that the rest are mostly idle.
Scientists have suggested that some ants may avoid working due to old age or inherent laziness. Hasegawa said the idle ants could be contributing something to the colony that they have not yet determined

Hey,
I got an Ant works for Xmas. I ordered the ants from the voucher what with it been cold and no self respecting ant would be seen alive in the cold, cus they'd be dead. They took over a month to arrive, in this time the gel in my antworks started to sink in thre middle, creating a milimetre gap down one side of the tank. WHen my ants arrived i followed the instructions and left them to it. now two weeks later they have done nothing. They managed to squeeze themselves down the gap and don't bother burrowing. They are so small they can get out of the air holes too, so I had to block them, which results in very inactive ants (even with a small gap for air). They are yellow harvester ants, thye are tiny, and boring. Even if thye diod burrow they are so small you wouldn't be able to see them. If my ant works worked like the pictures you see on the internet I'd be happy. I think i'm going to tip them out and let them go. Contrary to what this forum seems to suggest the ants aren't free, you have to pay for them. Overall, in my opinion, a complete disapointment. It does make a nifty desk lamp though.

Overall Antworks is pretty cool, but I've had probs with gel shrinking and creating air pockets and gaps down one side. Does anyone know if the gel can be gently heating / melted and poured back in and start again?
If possible then maybe I could save a few ants that are so sensible to get trapped - dumb ants!!
Your help would be appreciated

so i bought it. got some ants next door at the local gas station. i don't think they care i take their ants.lol. let me tell you, its hard to get at least 25 ants in the case bc they run real fast and they kit doesn't help you in that regard. i had to use a piece of paper. use a finger to disrupt their trail or flick a cpl of them. they go nutty. soon you will have 100 in a confined spot. scrape them on the paper and dump them in your container. then cloe the lid. do this as many times as you need. i did it 4 times. i have about 25 ants now. and yes i had to tape the 2 air holes. its ok. just open lid once per week. so it has been 1 day so far and the ants are all bunched together on the top inside lid. and about half of them are dead and no tunnels. lloks like depression set in. i went out again tonight to my favorite ant line. toosed in about 10 more. had em all over my hands and kit too. okay, this morning. 2 are still looking around. most are dead or in that little corner. this sux but i wont quit. oh and it does make a good desk lamp. and i will not buy ants bc they are fricken free. buy ants? you must be lazy too. get outside for once. yes. the gel after 4 days seems to sink. dont know about the melting and reheating, i wouldnt do it. odds are you will have blue mush after doing that. write the company, they may replace it. i will keep you guys posted on the American Gas Station Ants (8-9-07)--carter

Hi I had the ants and antfarm about 2 months ago, for the first month the ants were great, digging and generally looking all healthy and whistley, recently they have become stuck to each other and stuck together, and are all dying im not sure if they are stuck together or it is some kind of nervous system disease, so I took one out and poured a little water over him and cleaned him up and he was fine, so i put him back and he got sticky again which is restricting them and killing them also they cant climb up the sides cos of the condensation, so I dont know what to do. Think ill set them free, feels cruel to watch them die, its prob something I havent done correctly cos it was great for the 1st month or so!!

I have spotted the ant works on alot of website and always thought it looked really cool. I was all set to buy one this afternoon but after reading the other comments, I have though twice. it sounds like a really big disappointment, added to the fact I would feel bad if I had caught 20 or so ants and they all died. It looks sweet and I would love to have it but again I think we all must label it as something that looks good on paper, but a bit sh*t in practice.
