We've seen a few wrist-watch walkie talkie sets recently, it's only when we clapped our eyes on this set that we found any deserving of a mention on Pointless But Cool.
The first thing that struck us was the styling. Every other set of walkie talkie watches that we have seen have been clunky chunks of nasty looking plastic with stubby little aerials poking out of the top. These PMR 446 Long Range Walkie Talkie Watches instantly stand out with their funky Judge Dredd like styling.
But cool looks are nothing without the goods to back them up, which the PMR 446 Long Range Walkie Talkie Watches evidently have. The manufacturers claim an effective range over over a mile in favourable conditions (ie you're not in a lead box or something), and we've seen nothing to make us question this.
Operation too is a breeze. To talk you just, logically enough, push the "push to talk" button and then release to hear your reply in true simplex walkie talkie style. Not got a hand free? Fine - just use the VOX function instead. The technically minded may also be interested to know that the walkie talkie watches also come equipped with 8 channels and CTCSS codes per channel.
So, 2 cool looking walkie talkies that cut the mustard in the specs department and can be worn on the wrist. What more could you ask for? Oh yes... they tell you the time as well!
Why is it pointless?
Your mobile phone will pretty much do the same job
Why is it cool?
Walkie talkie watches that are more than a toy. Of course they're cool!
